Nevada’s Medicaid Managed Care Program serves certain populations in two urban counties—Washoe and Clark Counties. These populations comprise approximately 75 percent of the total Medicaid population. During the 82nd legislative session, the Division received state approval in its budget to finance the expansion of the Medicaid Managed Care Program to all counties in the State pursuant to Nev. Rev. Stat. § 422.273. This expansion will begin on January 1, 2026, with the implementation of the next Managed Care Contract Period, resulting in about a 10 percent increase in Medicaid recipients served by the State’s Medicaid Managed Care Program.
The Division estimates that the populations eligible for this expansion include about 75,000 people living in rural Nevada counties. This includes Medicaid-enrolled children, parents, and adults without children. About 126,000 individuals will continue to receive Medicaid coverage through the State’s Fee-For-Service (FFS) Medicaid program. These individuals live in all counties of the State and include, currently:
- Medicaid-enrolled children in foster care, juvenile justice, and child welfare systems;
- Individuals with disabilities;
- Seniors (ages 65 and older);
- Individuals receiving services through one of Medicaid’s three home and community-based waiver programs.
Over the coming months, the Division intends to host at least three public workshops in rural regions of the state to share information and answer questions about the statewide expansion with local recipients, providers, and county officials.
