Transportation Services

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) services are provided to Nevada Medicaid recipients, both Managed Care and Fee-For-Service (FFS), to access medically necessary Medicaid covered services. NEMT is arranged by a NEMT broker using various transportation providers and transportation modes throughout Nevada.

Transportation modes may include:

  • Public bus passes
  • Door-to-door or curb-to-curb services such as paratransit and transportation network company (Uber or Lyft)
  • Gas mileage reimbursement when private vehicles are used
  • Commercial airline flights for out of state travel

When medically necessary, a recipient can be authorized to have an attendant accompany them during travel or if the recipient is a minor.

Additionally, prior authorization is required for all NEMT services.  Recipients must provide at least three business days notice prior to the date of their appointment; however, urgent and same-day appointments can be accommodated when discharged from a hospital or medically necessary urgent care appointments.

At this time, Nevada Check Up recipients are not eligible for NEMT services.  If a Nevada Check Up member needs a ride to a medically necessary appointment, please contact transportation@nvha.nv.gov to determine other options available.

    How to Schedule Transportation

When a recipient is needing NEMT services, it will depend on which zip code they live in to determine who they call to schedule their ride.  In Nevada, there are two NEMT brokers who serve Medicaid recipients- MTM and SafeRide.

    Urban Counties Rural Counties
